Multi-User Piles Across Space

چکیده
We introduce Multi-User Piles Across Space, a technique that allows co-located individuals with PDAs to share and organize information items (e.g., photos, text, sound clips, etc.) by placing these items in shared, imaginary off-screen piles. This technique relies on human capacities to remember spatial layouts, and allows small co-located groups with limited screen real estate to collaboratively manage information. Each participant can use their PDA’s stylus to flick information to shared off-screen piles and view their contents. Connections are implemented through ad hoc WiFi. Optimistic concurrency control provides long term data consistency. We also describe an extension that allows PDA owners to transfer information items and piles to and from a tabletop display. Piles Across Space Breaking the Real-Estate Barrier on PDAs
We describe an implementation that has users ‘flick’ notes, images, audio, and video files into piles beyond the screen of the PDA. This scheme allows the PDA user to keep information close at hand without sacrificing valuable screen real estate. It also obviates the need to browse complex file trees during a working session. Multiple workspaces can be maintained in persistent store. Each works...
متن کاملDynamic Analysis of Embankments Reinforced with Micro-Piles
Application of micro-piles to stabilize unstable slopes has been widely considered in recent years. A micro-pile is a small-diameter (typically less than 300 mm), drilled, and grouted as non-displacement pile that is typically reinforced. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the influence of the micro-pile group on increasing safety factor as well as finding the optimum position of m...
متن کاملPublic Transport Ontology for Passenger Information Retrieval
Passenger information aims at improving the user-friendliness of public transport systems while influencing passenger route choices to satisfy transit user’s travel requirements. The integration of transit information from multiple agencies is a major challenge in implementation of multi-modal passenger information systems. The problem of information sharing is further compounded by the multi-l...
متن کاملMulti Cross Domain Recommendation Using Item Embedding and Canonical Correlation Analysis
In a multi-service environment it is crucial to be able to leverage user behavior from one or more domains to create personalized recommendations in the other domain. In our paper, we present a robust transfer learning approach that successfully captures user behavior across multiple domains. First, we vectorize users and items in each domain independently. Second, using a handful of common use...
متن کاملLeveraging Passive Paper Piles to Active Objects in Personal Knowledge Spaces
This paper presents a novel prototype for an intelligent office appliance which results from an integration of three state-of-the-art office applications/appliances: a workflow system, a document classification system, and a multi-functional peripheral. The resulting system allows for leveraging an office worker’s papers to her personal knowledge space in order to realize an pro-active and cont...
